Cardiac Stress and Stress Echo TestingĀ
Every 7 seconds in this country a healthy 37 year old person drops dead from silent heart disease. Women generally do not experience typical cardiac symptoms (chest pain) like men. This makes it critical for women to routinely have their heart checked after age 35. A cardiac stress test can be performed easily and safely by your family doctor. Ultrasound picture of the heart before and after exercise make the stress test much more accurate than treadmill alone. Stress tests are used to diagnose many types of health problems, predominantly blockage of the coronary arteries which leads to myocardial infarction (heart attack). Your doctor can also tell you what a safe target heart rate would be during exercise by performing this simple test.
Outpatient Cardiac Monitoring
Outpatient cardiac monitoring is simple and painless. The patient wears a small device about the size of a "walkman radio" which records abnormalities in heart rate or rhythm that occur with activity or during sleep. This test gives specific information regarding the patient's probability of experiencing cardiac arrest.
